Described as ‘deliciously and maddeningly unclassifiable’ by The Wire, Icarus’ 9th album, Fake Fish Distribution, is due for release on 6th February 2012 under Record Label collective, Not Applicable. 90’s drum and bass samples are seductively paired with their own plethora of sounds, to create something experimental beyond belief.
The album was composed using normal electronic music production tools through generative and parametric techniques. However, don’t let this create any airs of doubt around the masterpiece before you. The album’s content is incredibly varied with, with each of the 1000 copies distributed, being different from the next. After purchasing the album, it would be a personalised listening experience, an array of structured variations on FFD’s content, replenishing our understanding of collectible music.
Weaving chaotic bleeps and stuttered electronic drums, Icarus’ style is most definitely undefinable. One thing you can be sure of, is that it’s completely and utterly engaging to the listener. Some have compared the experience to revisiting the parranoid schizophrenic insomniac inside of them, others have claimed its similarity to an enviable path of enlightenment as you uncover the depth and meaning of the combination of sounds. See what you think of it by listening to their 8 track sampler HERE.
For more information view the video interview with Icarus at the beginning of the album recording process last February and catch them live at Cafe Oto, Hackney, London on Friday 20th January 2012.
